How To Renew Your California Vehicle Registration?

Remember renewing your vehicle’s registration is done annually. (Your rear plate will have the month and year that your registration will expire.) You will also receive a vehicle registration renewal notice prior to your vehicle’s registration expiration date by mail from the DMV with the following:

  • Your license plate tag’s expiration date.
  • Your vehicle information.
  • Registration renewal fees.
  • Late renewal penalty fee information.
  • Whether the smog check is required and you are required to take your vehicle to a smog test only center or any smog inspection center.
  • Parking ticket late fees (if any).

The DMV will usually already have your insurance information on file, if they do not you will be required to stop by or mail it to your local DMV office.

There Are Many Ways To Renew Your Registration, I Will List A Few Below.

  1. DMV’s online registration: http://www.dmv.ca.gov (Click on Online Services then Registration Renewal, and follow the instructions).
  2. You can also mail it in to the address listed on your vehicle registration renewal form.
  3. In Person: we recommend to set up an appointment with the DMV for a shorter waiting time.
  4. Finally, you can visit us at 851 S Lark Ellen Ave. Azusa, CA 91702 or call (626) 587-3016 to immediately begin the registration renewal process.

Immediately attach your new registration stickers to your license plates. Always keep your new car registration form in your vehicle at all times.

Keep in mind that the DMV will charge a 2.1% service fee on all debit and credit card transactions made on the DMV website. If you decide to do it online make sure you have the following before you get started.

Have your license plate number and the last 5 digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for a vehicle or the Hull Identification Number (HIN) for a vessel/boat. Have your smog certification filed with DMV, if needed. Have a renewal notice that shows your current address OR confirmed through the Change of Address system that your address has been updated.

Who will issue my license plate? The DMV issues your vehicle’s license plates, make sure that you secure it where it is visible and readable at all times. The rear license plate must be between 12 and 60 inches from the ground. Your front license plate should be no higher than 60 inches from the ground.
